Duke University Class of 2013

This image is one of hundreds taken at the Duke Commencement on May 12th, 2013. On the podium is Melinda Gates during her commencement address. The audience is the class of 2013 and the Duke faculty with their friends and family looking on from the stands. This .73 gigapixel image is one of the first taken with the AWARE2 Gigapixel Camera. Developed by a team of Duke engineers headed by David Brady, the Michael J. Fitzpatrick Professor of Electric Engineering at Duke’s Pratt School of Engineering, this system is one of the most powerful cameras ever developed. It has a single lens, 96 microcameras and a 110-degree field of view. Its images have 100 times the resolution of a 10-megapixel consumer camera and are 10 times sharper than 20/20 vision, enabling viewers to see details in thousands of faces.
